About Waves 4 Women

Waves 4 Women is a therapeutic surf program which enhances psychological, physical, and interpersonal functioning for women who have experienced adversity, trauma, and other significant life stressors. Through Ocean Therapy and surfing, participants are given opportunities to challenge themselves, engage in healthy risk taking, develop more adaptive coping skills, and experience mastery and success; all of which promote effective learning and personal growth.

What you can expect from Waves 4 Women:

What we do NOT provide:

  • Psychotherapy/trauma focused therapy
  • Case management
  • Crisis intervention
  • On call services

Confidentiality

Waves 4 Women operates under the Privacy Act 1993. All information about you will remain confidential to Waves 4 Women. Anything you choose to discuss during surf therapy sessions remains completely confidential and cannot be disclosed to others without your written consent except for the following situations:

If we have sufficient reason to believe that you are at risk of harming yourself and/or someone else, we have the right to break confidentiality and inform the necessary parties.

Outside of the above circumstance, the pre-surf wellness discussion and post surf debrief is confidential. Whatever people choose to discuss in the group each week stays in the group and should not be shared with others outside of the group.

Waves 4 Women currently currently holds surf therapy clinics on Saturday mornings from 7:45-10:00 am. If you need to reach us outside of these hours, please send an email to scwaves4women@gmail.com and we will get back to you. *Please do not contact us in a crisis, as we are not on call and are not able to provide crisis intervention services. Instead, if you are in need of immediate assistance for emotional, psychological, or physical issues, please contact 911 or your nearest ER.
